DUBAI – A new Indian Club has joined Zayed University at the Dubai campus Clubs Fair in Sept. 30, 2014.

The Indian club grabbed the attention of the students. It also grabbed the attention of the Indian workers who came and helped the Indian Club with the booth decorations.

Mira Eisa, a second year student and new member of the club said, “It was active and full of life. I felt like they are real Indian girls with the costumes.”

Although it is a new club, nearly 100 members joined during the Clubs Fair day according to the president of the Indian Club, Hend Al Ketbi.

“For me as an integrated strategic communications student, it’s really important to know other people’s cultures and traditions, to know how to interact with them and what to expect from them,” said Al Ketbi.

The reason the club was formed is “because of the high population of Indians here in the UAE,” said Al Ketbi.

One of the club’s planned activities was celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday by giving brief information about him and what he has done for India.

The club will also celebrate the Indian Holi Day or the Color Festival during the spring semester.

Ms. Eisa thinks it is important to have the club in order for Zayed University students “to learn about the Indian culture, food, music, lifestyle.”

The club also has plans to bring an Indian chef to teach members about Indian food.

Ms. Eisa said, “I like the Indian people, and I want to learn and know more about them. I have always loved learning about other culture.”
