DUBAI — Hamda Al Falasi, a Dubai-based designer, revealed her second capsule collection, “Spring Came Late,” at the Lammeh Exhibition at Dubai World Trade Center Thursday, May 26, 2016. The exhibition is an annual event held before Ramadan that showcases handpicked designers.

The young entrepreneur introduced her clothing line in March 2015 as a senior project at Dubai Ladies Club and officially launched her business on Instagram late May 2015. She completed a fashion drawing and sketching course at Esmod, a french fashion university located in Academic City.

Al Falasi’s designs are locally made and heavily inspired by the Tanzanian tribe, the Maasai, because of the comfort and versatility of the pieces. Each look can be worn in a number of ways, as desired by the wearer. The details of her looks highlight the tribe’s clothing elements.

The young designer was drawn to fashion as an art when she was just a child, inspired by the ever-changing looks and trends on Fashion TV.

“As a child, I always watched Fashion TV with my mom and I’d try to copy their makeup and outfits. I just loved that fashion is always changing, its evolving and there are trends that come and go. I love that about fashion,” said Al Falasi.

Al Falasi is planning on selling her latest collection at the Wear House event, annually hosted by Xpoze, this Ramadan. The details have yet to be confirmed.

Editor’s note: Hamda Al Falasi and Tarifah Bin Sulayem are first cousins.
