Etihad Airways announces leadership change: New CEO Gammell to take charge

ABU DHABI — Etihad current President and CEO James Hogan has been dismissed and will leave the company on 1 July 2017. Ray Gammell, who joined Etihad in 2009, will be taking over and become the new CEO of Etihad. He will be taking full responsibilities from now on. Gammell is Etihad Aviation Group’s current Chief People and Performance Officer and has been a member of the Executive Leadership.

Euromoney Emirates Conference in Sharjah

Trump to visit KSA; it will be his first international trip as president

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said that an upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia by the U.S. President Donald Trump would improve support between the United States and Muslim countries in the battle against extremism. Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, will be Trump’s first international trip as president.

Mua’allem rejects UN monitoring of safe zones

DAMASCUS — Walid Mua’allem, the Syrian Foreign Minister, said on Monday his country would reject any United Nations role in monitoring the operation of a safe zones. “We do not accept a role for the United Nations or international forces to monitor the agreement,” Mua’allem told reporters in Damascus.

Macron becomes president of France, defeating Le Pen

PARIS — Emmanuel Macron’s rise to French presidency holds a stunning rise for the political newcomer and his inexperienced bash but he now faces another battle to form a parliamentary majority, with his rivals already plotting revenge in June’s general election. He defeated Marine Le Pen of the National Front party by nearly 2-to-1.

Trump fires FBI Director Comey

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday the US FBI Director James Comey was fired by President Donald Trump. heading a huge investigation into whether his assistants plotted with Russia effected and changes last year’s U.S. election. Mr. Comey had just asked for more financial resources from the Justice Department for the investigation. “It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission,” President Trump said. Mr. Comey released information to Congress just before the election that stated the FBI was reveiwing more emails related to then candidate Hillary Clinton from her time as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama. A polling expert, Nate Silver, recently stated Mr. Comey’s sending this information to Congress probably cost Mrs. Clinton the election.
