DUBAI – Zayed University students hosted CCMS Showcase Event on Dubai campus on Nov. 21. The purpose of the event was to promote and talk about the College of Communication and Media Sciences to students at ZU and explain to them the significance and benefits that come with being a CCMS student. The event was organized by students taking TCC375 Planning and Promotion for Events and Festivals under the guidance of Dr. Noela Michael.
The event commenced by an opening speech delivered by Prof. Zoe Hurley, assistant dean at CCMS, in which she welcomed students, faculty members and other guests and introduced the college. This was followed by a talk show and later two activities for students who attended. The Middle East Public Relations Association student chapter at ZU was also represented at this event.
The talk show panel members included Fatma Al Jassim, a third-year CCMS student specializing in Integrated Strategic Communication at ZU, Alex Malouf, corporate communications manager at Procter & Gamble, Dr. Badran Badran, Prof. Nadia Rahman and Dr. Najat AlSaied.
The panel answered questions relating to the three different specializations offered by the college and the skills and expertise students acquire by joining these specializations and future career opportunities from completing a degree from CCMS.
Alex Malouf discussed the significance of communication in our world today by providing real-life examples from the public relations field and revealing how companies operate today and the role and significance of corporate communications.
Al Jassim then followed by talking about the reasons that led her to join CCMS and the ways in which being a CCMS student has developed, changed and helped her as an individual.
“For me, media is your voice,” Al Jassim said. “It gives an opportunity to defend what you believe in.”
The CCMS faculty members in the discussion panel also shared their opinions and views on the college, highlighting the different job opportunities students have upon graduating from the college. In addition to the diverse number of sectors and areas in which they can work, faculty members highlighted the immense impact media has on our world today.
The MEPRA students also greatly contributed to the success of the event. They designed their own booth, which represented their values, mission, goals and objectives as a student chapter at ZU. They also described the different activities and events which they have executed both on campus and outside campus. They spoke to students about the benefits that come along with being a member of MEPRA and the ways in which it develops and enhances their communication skills.
Overall, the event was a huge success and attracted many students around the university who were all eager to learn more about the College of Communication and Media Sciences and the MEPRA student chapter at ZU.
