DUBAI — Welcome to Zajel ZU’s new beauty column. The idea behind the beauty column is to provide another way for Zayed University students to express ourselves on a topic important to us. Through this column we’ll share our love for beauty to give you a spark of inspiration.
In this column you’ll find all things beauty, from makeup, to skin care to beauty runway trends. Stay tuned to read beauty tips and reviews. We hope you enjoy this first story, “Down to basics: The makeup sponge,” and the second story in the column, “Too faced chocolate bar palette review and swatches.”
The basics
When I first started out with makeup, I didn’t want to invest in makeup brushes just because I didn’t know how often I’d be using them. I remember buying a cheap set of brushes until I learn more about makeup but brushes aside, if you want to go for a rather flawless finish try using makeup sponges, they’ll change your life.
If two people apply exactly the same makeup, in the exact same steps, their makeup will still look different and that’s because of the makeup tools, brushes or sponges, they use.
I believe makeup tools are the basics of makeup application. They are even more important than the base or foundation because even if you have the right base but not the right tools, you won’t have the desired finish on your face.
If you’re a lover of makeup and always wonder why your foundation doesn’t really blend or sink into your face, it may be because you haven’t tried using a makeup sponge.
Two great sponges
One of the most well known makeup sponges is the Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Tried and tested I love them both.
The Beauty Blender is the high-end, fancier sponge, yet the Real Techniques sponge is more affordable and works just as well as the Beauty Blender.
A makeup artist named Rea Ann created the Beauty Blender, and people believe that she has changed the face of makeup application forever.
Sisters Sam and Nic from the Youtube channel Pixiwoo created the Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge as a cheaper, yet good quality duplicate of the Beauty Blender.
I personally have used both and loved them very much. You can use them to blend foundation, cream blushers or even blend your cream contour, let’s just say they’re versatile and multi use.
You can find the Real Techniques Miracle complexion sponge at your nearest Boots Pharmacy.
You can find the Beauty Blender at your nearest Sephora.
