DUBAI – Senior Zayed University students launched a campaign with the title “Love Me More.”

Dubai senior majors from ZU’s College of Communication and Media Sciences are running the first national public campaign to address low self-esteem among teenagers.

The campaign is a response to what campaigners believe is the negative influence of social media on youngsters’ self-esteem through stereotypes that spread false images of desired lifestyles and body image.

Social media become one of the most important parts of youngsters’ daily life, creating a great influence on their behaviour, beliefs and ways of living. One of the most important impacts of social media on Gen Z has been their lower self-esteem.

The studies have shown how social media posts including the body shaming concept, almost unbelievable perfect lifestyle, and daily activities have created an unreachable way of living. Then when Gen Z individuals realize it is almost impossible to keep up with all these concepts, they start thinking there are gaps in their social lives, so they start suffering from low self-esteem.

Consequently, the campaign tries to study how social media platforms are influencing the self-esteem of the individuals of Gen Z. Such knowledge aims to create beneficial concepts of how to increase the individuals’ self-esteem successfully. This is being done through collecting information by interviewing some students about their social media usage and how it influences them. In addition, an Instagram account has been created to create content that would help raise the individuals’ self-esteem and help them manage how these platforms influence their life and mind.

The members of this campaign would be pleased to have you as part of this project, so let’s start loving ourselves more, for we might be the only army we have to fight our battles for us. In order to join us, please follow us on Instagram @__loving__me__more__, and share your concepts using #love_yourself on the date mentioned at the top of this news release.

The campaign is a graduation project that is a part of the Integrated Strategic Communication concentration in CCMS.
