DUBAI – International Studies students attended the 87th General Assembly of Interpol, which was held from Nov. 18 to Nov. 21 in Dubai.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minster of the UAE, and Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, minister of interior of the UAE, inaugurated the Interpol General Assembly at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai. Headquartered in Lyon, France, Interpol is one of the most important international organizations with 194 member states.
This year’s largest General Assembly was hosted in Dubai, and a group of students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences attended the event as well as had the opportunity to visit the technological innovation exhibition during the conference.
“As one of the world’s most technologically advanced cities, Dubai is the ideal host for this year’s General Assembly,” said Jürgen Stock, secretary-general of Interpol.
This conference also elected South Korea’s Kim Jong-Yang to be the new Interpol president, and the UAE to the Executive Committee.
“I am proud that the UAE has been elected to the Executive Committee of Interpol for Asia,” said Shoug Al Tawash, International Studies student. “I believe the UAE will continue to tackle the challenges of the future and meet all our society’s aspirations through international security.”
